Police seek assistance on armed robbery

Police have renewed their appeal for information into an armed robbery where shots were fired at Bonville earlier in the year.

About 10pm on Tuesday February 28, two men aged 25 and 35 went to Butler Road at Bonville to meet a man and purchase a quad bike and dirt bike.

They were met by three men, armed with rifles, who threatened them and demanded cash.

During the incident one of the men was struck with the rifle before the armed men stole the cash and fled in a white 1990 model Nissan Pintara hatchback.

The two men returned to their vehicle and gave chase following the Nissan towards Gleniffer Road where a number of shots were fired at their vehicle.

Police from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command were contacted and later located a stolen Nissan Pintara in Gleniffer Road. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

On Wednesday May 2, detectives arrested a 24-year-old man in Armidale and charged him with robbery in company whilst armed with a dangerous weapon.

He was refused bail and remains in custody where he is due to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday, July 24.

Coffs Harbour Detectives are continuing their investigations into the robbery and are attempting to identify and locate the other two men allegedly involved in the incident.

Police are also keen to hear from anyone who saw the Nissan Pintara in the vicinity of Butlers and Gleniffer Roads on the evening of Tuesday 28 February 2012.

Anyone with information about the armed robbery or the identity and whereabouts of the men is asked to contact Coffs Harbour Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
