Police said a silver Holden Commodore sedan was detected speeding south of Urunga around 11.35pm on Thursday by a Highway Patrol vehicle.

Failing to stop for the officer, the vehicle allegedly reached speeds of 160km/h in a 110km/h zone.

Coffs Harbour police were alerted and laid road spikes on the highway near the Englands Rd roundabout.

A 22-year-old Sydney man was taken into custody after the front and rear passenger side wheels of the car deflated.
