The u17s Panthers in a recent home game against Orange Emus.Rugby Club – Ladies Day 2012
Tomorrow the Grenfell Rugby Club will host its annual “Ladies Day” event at R B Bembrick Field. This year the Club will raise funds in support of CanAssist – the Cancer Assistance Network [Fundraising No. 12748].
CanAssist provides assistance and care to cancer patients and their families through its network of branches and accommodation facilities. Each year more than $1.8 million goes directly to supporting people with cancer in rural New South Wales. Rural and regional cancer patients can face out of pocket expenses up to 5 times more than city patients, and thus the CanAssist vision is for every country community, family and individual to have equitable access to cancer care and support services.
The Grenfell Rugby Club strongly supports the CanAssist vision and would like to invite you to assist them in raising funds for the charity via “Ladies Day 2012”.
The Ladies Day festivities will begin at 12pm. For the ladies tickets are $40 ($10 direct to CanAssist) and will include Cocktails, Canapés’ & Dinner. However, if you are an expectant mother or non drinker the price will be only $20. Tickets are available from Ardee and Vavoom Hair Studio until 11am Saturday and will also be sold at the door.
The theme is Glitz & Glamour – so think red carpet, think Cinderella, think Lady Gaga or sport some Vinnies vintage glam, be as creative as you like. A ladies day pamper station will include the services of local beautician Katherine Neill and hair stylist Rachel Eppelstun; available to make you extra glamorous!
A fantastic raffle of donated prizes is available to all, with tickets being sold out the front of Crutchers IGA on Saturday morning and at the clubhouse on the day. Some of the terrific prizes include an Orange Helicopters scenic flight and a D.A. Yates Photography & Design Portrait sitting.
A player auction as well as the auction of an array of items supplied by the Grenfell Branch of CanAssist and Australian Rugby Union, will take place on Saturday evening after the conclusion of the games. So if there is something here that’s up your alley come on down and place your bid.

Platypi Prevail Over U17s Panthers
Last Saturday the U17’s Panthers travelled to Forbes to take on the Platypi on a day better suited to the mammal than playing football. Unfortunately for us Forbes thrived in the wet and muddy conditions just like their team mascot. Whilst we were down a couple of key players we were expecting a more spirited effort as the boys had been on the improve in recent weeks.
On Saturday our commitment to effective first up tackling was missing so we were always on the back foot trying to reform our defensive line. Down 22-0 at half time things were looking grim, but to the boys credit they rallied to hold Forbes to 32-0 at fulltime. While there is more to the game than defence, if we don’t get that part right then our support play when we have the ball seems to be poor as well. As a consequence we struggle to build pressure and score points.
Best and Fairest this week – 3pts S Mortyne, 2pts J Troy, 1pt A Carney.
This week we play Orange Emus at home starting at 1.30pm. So come on down and cheer the home team on. Go Panthers!
