Grenfell Golf News

Golf in Grenfell had a boost in interest last weekend when 18 players, i.e. 3 teams of 6 journeyed to Peak Hill to contest the Lachlan Valley Pennants.
Nanjing Night Net

This was a very good contingent from Grenfell and it is pleasing that they didn’t come home empty handed.

The “B” grade handicap Pennant is hanging on the wall and also 2 of our younger players Jamie Logan and Steve Walker excelled to be runners-up in individual events.

This event left the weekend fields a little depleted but even so 10 golfers tee’d off last Saturday to play a stroke.

There was only 1 grade and Jono Baker ‘caviared’ them all with 69 net.

The next best was Peter Harris and Max Barr on 72 net and such was the hard going that Cec Aston was 3rd with 74 net.

All these 4 place getters won balls in the ball competition and there was no nearest the pin.

On Sunday there was only 5 players, just enough for a competition, and Chris Fletcher had it all together winning with 35 pts.

Brian Brown was close behind on 34 pts and Peter Harris filled 3rd place on 32 pts.

Chris and Brian were each awarded a ball and once again there was no nearest the pin.

Two matches were played in the match play knockout competition over the weekend resulting in a win for Jono Baker over Mark Loader 6 & 5 and Brian Brown over Eroll Perkins 3 & 1.

Thirteen Players turned up last Wednesday to play the usual stableford and here Brian Brown showed his superiority returning 36 pts.

Phil Simpson and Peter Harris shared 2nd place with 35 pts and Rob Holland came 3rd on 34 pts.

The ball competition went to Phil, Max, Parr, Steve, and Brain and Parr had the added distinction of being nearest the pin.

The main interest in golf this weekend centre around the Caragabal Open on Sunday.

A bus will be leaving the club around 8 am, it would be nice if intending users could make there intentions known.

On Sunday 30th June a Stroke round will be played and on Sunday 1st July a stableford is scheduled.

The following weekend we have the Grenfell Open tournament listed with a 4.B.B.B or Saturday and on Sunday it will be a 3 Man Ambrose.

With good weather it should be a great weekend.

The match and handicap Committee are requesting members to provide plate of cakes or slices if they can for this event on the Sunday.

A working bee has been organized for this Saturday morning to prepare the course for this open event.

All welcome, bring a few tools but mainly bring yourselves.

A further item of interest to come out of last Mondays meeting is the rescheduling of the 4 Ball Championships to July 22nd.

The 36 holes will be played on the one day.

More details later.

The tipping competition leaders are unchanged after 15 rounds, S McCann on 144 pts, Jim Myers and Greg Oliver on 143 Pts and C Brebner on 137 pts are still leading in the junior competitor.

Duty members for the Saturday Night Meat Market are Megan Starr and Eroll Perkins.
