“One Outta Two Ain’t Bad”: On Saturday morning early, July 7, two of Grenfell’s younger male bowling brigade travelled to Cowra Bowling Club to take their parts in the Zone 5 Singles play-offs.
The more senior of these was Andrew “Bingo” Brown who had won the Open Division of the Lachlan Valley District Singles Championships.
The younger of the two was Blake Bradthe, the 2012 winner of the President’s Reserve Singles for Lachlan Valley.
In his first (and only, unfortunately) match on Saturday, Andrew confronted the 2012 Nepean Singles Champion, Michael Devine.
The bowler from Glenbrook proved a little too strong on the day for Andrew in this contest winning 31 shots to 18.
In fact, Andrew’s opponent Devine went on to win the 2012 Zone 5 Open Singles Final on Saturday morning, July 8.
However, Blake Bradthe was able to win his Saturday morning match in fairly comfortable fashion.
He then went on to defeat a 13 year old bowler from Campbelltown (Nepean District) in his afternoon clash.
This match was not always going to be Blake’s; it appears he was pushed hard, particularly in the early stages of the contest, by the near-coastal living youngster.
On Sunday morning, Blake had to play an opponent from Manildra (Central Tablelands District) in the final of the 2012 Zone 5 President’s Reserve Singles.
This apparently was a very close encounter for the young fellow from Grenfell and therefore worthy of a zone final.
Blake managed to be the victor in the final by 31 shots to 25 over “Flippy” from Manildra.
And so, although two Grenfell singles players went to Cowra looking to win Zone 5 titles, at least one came home with one.
Congratulations to Blake Bradthe for you are the Zone 5 President’s Reserve Singles Champion for 2012.
Better luck in 203 For Andrew Brown.
Blake is now eligible to contest the 2012 State President’s Reserve Championships.
Time and venue will be reserved.
Title to be won in Grenfell: This coming Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15, the Zone 5 Pairs Championship will be contested at the Grenfell Bowling Club.
The respective district pairs champions of the zone for 2012 will congregate at Grenfell to bowl for this title.
The first matches will commence at 9.00 am on Saturday, with the final scheduled for Sunday at 9.00 am.
The 2012 Lachlan Valley District Champions in attendance will be Charley Bryant and Gerard Beath from Cowra.
Good bowls to be watched by all and sundry who enjoy this extremely thrilling level of play.
Bowlers jackpot: There is no way known really that the jackpot could have gone off this week.
Just peruse these details of the draw conducted last Monday morning, July 9: (i) Even rink, (ii) End number 8, and (iii) Plus 9 shots.
Subsequently, the jackpot now reaches $140.00.
Very worthwhile winning.
Major coming bowling activities: 1. This coming after-noon July 15, the Grenfell Men’s Bowling Club’s Fours Championships commence with a single championship match.
After that, the play in this event accelerates.
2. “The Henry Lawson Mixed 3 Bowl Triples” are to be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012. Entry by “away teams” at this stage is extremely heartening, however the same cannot be said for the nomination of local (i.e., Grenfell and district) teams.
Hey, there is a modest $1300.00 up for grabs and “ya gotta be in it, to win it!!”
3. Please make an effort to support the Grenfell Grade 3 pennant team in their quest for a state title.
All you have to do is buy a ticket or two in the Firewood Raffle soon available.
Yours in Bowls.
