A beautiful example of the simple – yet far-reaching – Operation Christmas Child boxes filled with practical gifts by a huge squad of volunteers all around the world (including Grenfell) every year for those less fortunate than ourselves.Do you know that of the 2.2 billion children in the world nearly half live in poverty – yes, 1 billion children?
Do you know that you can make a difference through the Power of a Simple Gift?
Samaritan’s Purse, through their project Operation Christmas Child distribute shoe boxes filled with simple gifts to children in desperate need. This year Operation Christmas Child in Australia and New Zealand have set a target of 320,000 shoe box gifts with the aim of making a difference to children in the countries of Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Vanuatu.
A shoe box of simple gifts – school supplies, hygiene items, clothing and toys – show a child they are not forgotten, that someone cares. A shoe box of simple gifts opens up spiritual and practical opportunities for the children, their families and communities – by showing them the love of Jesus, breaking the cycle of poverty through education, giving access to clean water and sanitation, meeting health care needs and training in livelihood programs.
Come and hear more about this exciting project at the Operation Christmas Child 2012 Grenfell Launch to be held on Tuesday 17 July at Pat Berman’s, 35 Wood Street at 10.30am. Come and enjoy morning tea, a DVD and information on last year’s distribution and information for 2012.
