The Panthers only have 3 games remaining before the finals of the ANFD Cup competition this season and they are looking competitive with a win over the Canowindra Pythons on Saturday. The result was certainly a turnaround from the punishing 48-8 loss the Panthers suffered at the hands of the Pythons in Round 5.

Most of the play went Grenfell’s way in the first 11 minutes and the law was on their side with our local lawyer running the line.

The first error came from Canowindra giving away a penalty and Bobso made no mistake in putting the ball over. Bobso had another chance at a kick 10 mins later, again adding the points. Panthers 6-0.

The first half continued with some good defence from both teams shutting down the opposition attack and keeping the half tryless.

Panthers 6-0 halftime.

Minimal changes were made to the Panthers outfit throughout the game and the boys worked well together. After the break the footy continued in much the same way with Canowindra making it hard for the Panthers to break their line.

The Panthers did manage to get under the Pythons skin however and with ill discipline being the flavor of Canowindra’s day they had their No. 4 binned after a brief altercation followed by another penalty being issued for not coming through the gate.

From in front Bobso put another 3 on the board. Panthers 9-0.

A lapse in form from the Panthers late in the game allowed Canowindra through for a try, but thankfully the kick hit the post.

Score 9-5 Panthers.

The remaining 8 minutess saw the crowd on the edge of their seats and a cheer go up as the final whistle blew. Final score 9-5, great win Panthers!

Charlie scored himself the Players Player nod and Ian, Henry and Dicko all received best and fairest points.

This weekend the boys will make the long trek out to Condobolin in what is expected to be another tough game. Fingers crossed the boys can continue with a winning run into the finals. Hope to see you there Panthers fans!
