Grenfell Stingers Football Roundup

Grenfell Stinger Adam Green gets away with the ball in last week’s match against Parkes Jets last Sunday at Top Lawson Oval.On a miserable Sunday afternoon the mighty Stingers took on Parkes Jets. Once again we won the toss and decided to run uphill, first mistake “Mitch”.

For the first ten minutes we used as a warm up. When we finally got going we looked good with some nice passing from Adam, the boy whose hair will make a nice suit, was playing a new position as midfielder and found it pretty busy there, but with plenty of help from Clair, Dave and Dan he settled in.

The Jets struck the first blow by stepping through Ben and Mitch and slotting the ball past Mark.

The next goal was unbelievable hitting the eastern post curling over the line then bouncing back into play off the western post, Mark was not happy “Tim” on with the game, I think about this super Dan the wonder midfielder pushed the ball to Adam who put the perfect pass to Michael who calmly walked the ball past their keeper, the week away with the Buddhist monks has calmed Michael’s bad temper.

From memory the Jets scored again coming through the middle, come on Gary where were you.

In the second half it seemed Jets were in our half most of the time. It didn’t help that we kept giving away our corner kicks no names will be mentioned “Murray” or was it Mitch on the few occasions we pushed into the Jets half, Alfred Michael Walker couldn’t win a trick as the Jets back cut him down at every move, could have something to do with his age, poor old bugger or is that “ Mugga”.

Stingers scored again thanks to Michael Devals calm Domineer, I’m not sure who put the ball to him so lets say Clair to Dave to Dan to Alfred to Ben then Michael scored, Yeah !!! We were coming back.

Jets came through again with their fast attack scored again.

With about ten to go coach Ben pushed up, putting “ Turtle Boy” Gary into the backs, not too sure if that was a good idea, as Jets scored 3 more times.

Final score Jets 8 Stingers 2 lesson learned, player of the match Dan Harvey.

Many thanks to Lyal Walker for the after games sausages and the Grenfell Bowling Club for putting up with our rowdy behaviour after games.

Next week we play Condobolin at home at 2 pm.

Also a big thank you to Tim Walker and Peter Mason our officials.
