The July meeting, chaired by President Phyl Smith was held in the conference room at the Community Hub on Main Street.
The main general business item was the Open Gardens Weekend to be held on October 13 and 14, 2012.
Several residents have already agreed to open their gardens, however anyone willing to display their pride and joy would be welcomed by President Phyl on 6343 1164.
A highlight of the July meeting was a talk by Librarian Anne Gault about her trip to Mali in West Africa.
Anne spoke of the history of the country from ancient times, of the customs that have developed, the standard of living of the people today and showed photos of, amongst other things, unique mud buildings.
She emphasized the importance of the great Niger River upon which 100 million people depend.
During her 12 day visit to Mali Anne was, obviously not just a tourist!
The next meeting of the club will be the AGM, to be held at the Grenfell Bowling Club at 2pm on Tuesday August 7, 2012.
Guest speaker, Mr Reg Kidd has agreed to come from Orange to speak at the AGM.
Reg is probably best known for his gardening talk-back radio show on ABC Radio on Saturday mornings.
He is a councilor with Orange City Council and a former Mayor on the Executive of the NSW Farmers’ Association and several other organizations.
We look forward to hearing from Reg on a range of topics including gardening.
