Congratulations: Former local, Paul Joyce son of John and brother of Danny has been selected in Lawn Bowls to represent Newcastle (Zone 2) in the Pat Geary Shield series at Lambton Bowling Club ( his home club) on August 11 and12.

The team will play against the Central Coast, Hunter/Upper Hunter and the North Coast.

The team consists of 24 players, being 6 rinks of 4.

Paul has been in the reserve’s squad for some time and will make his series debut alongside five other team mates from Lambton.

They will have the opportunity to play alongside some great players in Terry Antram (Australian Representative), Richard Girvan (NZ Representative) along with State Representatives.

Paul celebrates his birthday on Monday August 13 so it should be an exciting weekend for him and his teammates.

Youthworks Yr 13 Program: Grace Walker, daughter of David and Norma of “Cumnock Springs” has recently returned from 4 weeks in Fiji with 93 of her contemporaries.

They travelled as part of Sydney Anglican Youthworks Year 13 program which involves training in Christian discipleship and theology.

During their time in Fiji they lived for some time with local families in remote villages. There they took part in local church activities and ran kids and youth programmes. They also visited Women’s refuges, Prisons and orphanages, and helped in practical ways. Grace describes her experience as very challenging but an amazing time she won’t forget.

Happy Birthday: Debbie Williamson celebrated her birthday on Tuesday evening with her many friends at Fettler’s Restaurant.

Annual Combined Churchman’s Dinner: The Annual Churchman’s dinner this year hosted by the Anglican parish will be held on Thursday August 23 in the parish hall with fellowship at 6.30pm followed by dinner. At 7pm.

A very interesting speaker, the Reverend Eric Burton whose first appointment as a Parish Priest was at Bribbaree will be guest speaker.

Following his appointment to Bribbaree he became a Navy Chaplain.

Cost for the evening is only $15 per head. All men in Grenfell are welcome to attend.

For catering purposes, please place your name on the sheets at any of the churches in Grenfell a week prior.

Pre-school Art Exhibition: The Grenfell Pre-School will be running their annual art show from Monday August 13 to Friday 17.

Held at the Grenfell Hub in Main Street, This exhibition was very successful last year and enjoyed by the whole community.

The Grenfell Show: Members of the Grenfell PAH&I committee are very busy preparing for the annual show which will be held on Friday August 31 and Saturday September 1.

Sincere Sympathy: Sympathy is extended to Doone nee Griffiths and her children Imogen and Isabella on the recent and untimely death at Orange of her dear husband and their loving father Dugald Grist.

Sympathy is extended to Alison Dinham and her family on the death of her mother June Bewley on Saturday July 21. Alison had been down visiting her mother in Victoria prior to her passing.

Sympathy is also extended to Maureen Piefke and her extended family on the passing of her dear husband Bill, to the family of Neill Lamb and to the family of Stanley-better known as John Huckel late of Gooloogong.
